Jeff Blakley - South Dade History

Jeff Blakley will discuss some of his articles and essays on the history of South Dade. A native of Homestead, since his retirement, Jeff has followed his passion for local history. He is an independent scholar who writes articles for his website, Historic South Dade and volunteers at the Historic Homestead Town Hall Museum. Of necessity, he focuses on the history of the area from Goulds down to Florida City -- at 2pm at the Coral Gables Museum, 285 Aragon Avenue in Coral Gables.

On Sunday, December 1st, the Miami Pioneers and Natives of Dade historical society celebrates the holidays with the annual gathering at the museum at 2pm. Everyone is encouraged to bring something to share at the pot luck refreshments tables. The members of the Miami Pioneers and Natives of Dade historical society invite the public  -- especially those with an interest in local history -- to attend.

William and Mary Brickell - the Australian Connection

Historian Cesar Becerra offers a glimpse of the early days of William and Mary Brickell. Before the trading post. Before the Avenue. Before the Banks. William had to meet Mary and Mary had to meet William. They did so in a far off continent that had just sounded the alarm that gold had been found. Joining Cesar to tell the interesting tale of how this project got started will be Mayor Don Slesnick.
