Bob Carr - The Bigger Picture of Brickell Point

Sunday, January 9 at 2pm on Zoom

Bob Carr - The Bigger Picture of Brickell Point

Brickell Point has been conquered, inhabited, landed on, worshiped on, built on, buried on and positioned from the get-go as the epicenter for several communities that eventually would become a critical part of the magic city.

Join noted archaeologist and preservationist Bob Carr as he recounts a long journey at his beloved Brickell Point on Sunday, January 9th at 2pm - live via Zoom.

Co-founder of the Archaeological and Historical Conservancy in 1985, Bob Carr has served as its full time director since 1999. He has worked as an archaeologist with the State of Florida's Division of Historic Resources and with the National Park Service. He was Miami-Dade County's first archaeologist and became the County's Historic Preservation Director in 1999. Bob has a Master's Degree in Anthropology from Florida State University. He is a former editor of the Florida Anthropologist and former president of the Florida Archaeological Council. He is a recipient of the Bullen Award, and received Florida's Historic Preservation Award in 2003.

Florida Humanities Grants

Grants Director Position Now Open

MP/NOD Grants Director Position Now Open
The Florida Humanities Council offers grants to groups like ours, supporting engaging humanities-based learning experiences, providing speakers and programs of interest to our members and friends in the community.

Beginning in 2022, Florida Humanities’ Community Project Grants will double, awarding up to $10,000 to support humanities-based learning experiences. This funding opportunity aims to increase public participation in — and access to — the humanities by providing relevant, engaging, and meaningful humanities-based programming to all.

The Miami Pioneers and Natives of Dade historical society is looking for a point person among our members to take the lead on learning more about these grants and programs. Do you have a few hours each month to volunteer some time to engage with the Florida Humanities Council on our behalf as our grants director?

Please let us know if you're willing to step up and help out with this worthy project. Call Robert Burr at 305-439-1376 or send an email to: rob@mpnod.org
