Miami-Dade Public Library System Special Collections and Archives | Join The Miami Pioneers and Natives of Dade historical society for a program on local history -- Preserving and Protecting Miami’s History at the Library -- at 2pm on Saturday, April 9th at the Pinecrest Branch Library, 5835 SW 111th Street in Pinecrest, FL 33156. This event is free and open to the public. Participants can also enjoy the presentation via Zoom. |
|  | Our special guest speakers are Stephanie Garcia and Margarita Mirabal, the heads of Miami-Dade Public Library’s Special Collections & Archives and Digitization divisions. They will discuss the practical steps and proactive efforts taken to preserve and protect the treasures of Miami’s history held within Main Library’s walls.

Miami-Dade Public Library System’s Division of Special Collections & Archives holds rare and irreplaceable historical documents for the benefit of the public and scholarly community. The collections include the Helen Muir Florida Collection, 16mm Film Collection, Cuban Collection of Rare Books & Ephemera, Genealogy Collection, Vasari Project archive, and Rare & Antiquarian books as early as 17th century. It is the primary goal for the collection to provide the public with the contents of the vault, at their request. Its collections include rare books, original manuscripts, over 18,000 photographs, prints, artifacts, audio visual resources, and electronic media. |

The Miami Pioneers is Dade County’s legacy historical organization, originally founded in 1936 by prominent pioneer settlers and business leaders who arrived in Miami before the year 1900. The Natives of Dade was incorporated in 1986 by a group of local history enthusiasts born in Dade County. The groups merged on July 8, 2002. |
