TodaySaturday, September 10 at 2pmMatt Stock - Abandoned Everglades |
The Miami Pioneers and Natives of Dade historical society invites one and all to attend a monthly meeting on the second Saturday of the month at the Pinecrest Branch Library at 2pm to hear our special guest speaker. |
| | | The Miami Pioneers and Natives of Dade historical society presents a lecture by Matt Stock featuring his amazing photos of the Abandoned Everglades, at the Pinecrest Library today at 2pm. |
| | | | Award-winning Photographer Matt Stock has earned a reputation for his dramatic images of natural wonders, including his series of Abandoned Everglades.
Abandoned Vehicles of the Everglades explores the interaction between man and nature as seen through night-time environmental portraits of vehicles long abandoned in the Everglades ecosystem.
Each image was captured at night utilizing the highly specialized technique of light painting combined with long exposures and seasonally specific images without adding anything to or taking away from the scene. Everything you will see in these images was actually there on location: the super moon, the milky way, and of course the automobiles. Over the decades these man-made objects have become a part of the cycle of life as flora and fauna grow around and literally through them.
Matt Stock is an award-winning artist based in the United States whose photographs are in the permanent collection of the National Park Service, National Trust for Historic Preservation, and the Palm Beach Photographic Centre. Stock was one of 30 artists selected by the National Park System to celebrate their Centennial Anniversary. He was also recognized in 2017 with a grant from the National Endowment for the Arts. In 2019 he was one of 30 artists and arts organizations awarded a James L. Knight Arts Challenge Grant. Everything seen in his work was captured in real time and on location.
