Miami’s historic period is highlighted from the founding of a Spanish mission at the mouth of the Miami River in 1567, American and Bahamian settlers, Fort Dallas to the mid twentieth century’s growth of Miami as a major American City. |
Bob Carr has worked as an archaeologist with the State of Florida, the National Park Service, and became Dade County’s first archaeologist, and retired as the County director of Historic Preservation. He is currently director of the Florida not-for-profit Archaeological and Historical Conservancy, and author of numerous articles and two books: Digging Miami and a pictorial history of the Everglades. He has just completed a novel about the Miami Circle titled “The Python Conspiracy”. |

The Miami Pioneers is Dade County’s legacy historical organization, originally founded in 1936 by prominent pioneer settlers and business leaders who arrived in Miami before the year 1900. The Natives of Dade was incorporated in 1986 by a group of local history enthusiasts born in Dade County. The groups merged on July 8, 2002. |
