About Miami Pioneers and Natives of Dade

Welcome to the online home of MP/NOD

The Miami Pioneers began in 1936 as Miami’s first historical society with membership limited to families that arrived and settled in South Florida before 1900. It’s the oldest and most prestigious historical society in South Florida. Our founding members were the leading pioneer settlers of Miami in it’s formative years, developing the early infrastructure, business community, culture and social fabric of South Florida. We honor their commitment and resolve by studying and remembering their legacy while celebrating their significant contributions to our community.

The Natives of Dade was founded in 1986 by a group of people born in Miami-Dade county. In a community largely known for its transient population, South Florida native born citizens share a common understanding, core memories and lasting legacy. The group seeks to preserve and share their memories of the community as it has progressed over the decades.

The Merger: These two historical societies merged in 2002 and became the Miami Pioneers and Natives of Dade. Originally, the minimal aged to be a member was 50 years old, but that restriction was removed in 2007.

Monthly Meetings

We meet 10 times each year, on the second Saturday of each month at 2pm sharp (except July and August). The usual location is Pinecrest Branch Library, 5835 SW 111th St, Pinecrest, FL 33156. Phone: 305-668-4571.

Annual Dues

Our annual membership dues are $20 a year. Mail your check made to MP/NOD to our Treasurer: Marlene B. Carlin, 14900 SW 71 Ave, Miami, FL 33158.

Our Monthly Newsletter

Each month, we produce a newsletter with information about upcoming meetings, guest speakers, special events and items of interest to those that enjoy learning about and preserving local history.

Once a month, you’ll receive your monthly MP/NOD newsletter via email.

Importance of Participation

Please remember to attend the monthly meetings to see your fellow members, stay abreast of news and updates to your historical society and so that our guest speakers receive the type of reception that they deserve.

Bring a friend, invite a neighbor, reach out to family members that you know will enjoy our wonderful presentations on local history.
