Local farmer and historian, Jorge J. Zaldivar of PG Tropicals and Guavonia Guava Grove presents The History, Seed Introduction & Lore of Florida Guava.

To early pioneers of South Florida, the guava was a critical crop, providing valuable income and juice for making jellies and other preserved specialties.

Come explore old Miami and South Dade, join Jorge to learn more about his discoveries and how he is keeping these Floridian traditions alive. Mr. Zaldivar is a board member of the South Florida Palm Society (SFPS), The Rare Fruit Council International (RFCI) Miami, and a disc jockey known over the air waves as DJ Mamey Disco.

The members of the Miami Pioneers and Natives of Dade historical society invite the public  — especially those with an interest in local history — to attend the monthly meeting on the first Sunday of the month at 2pm at the Coral Gables Museum, 285 Aragon Avenue in Coral Gables.

Each meeting features a presentation by a guest speaker, followed by social time and refreshments. The public is invited.
